work in progress - travel
Working with both the figurative and the literal ideas of travel (being still and moving fast at the same time), I want to investigate the space between movement and stillness. Beginning with original videos of movement, they act as both projections and the source for my prints. I then make paper with objects evocative of the movement in the video footage. Using this handmade paper as a base, I then layer it with printing, projections, light, and sculptural elements. The textile becomes the focal point and medium of the multi-disciplinary object.
How are the objects from which the paper is created revealed in their broken down stillness?
How are static fibers manipulated through video movement?
How is paper altered by image when you can see its fibers and, simultaneously, how is a projected image altered by the fabric and patterns of those fibers?
