claudia de trop

this started as an experimental piece. the uprights and frames were left over from the prototype of the claudia bookcase and the shelves were mistakes from the build. i couldn't part with the shapes of the pieces, but even so, everything had to be refitted to fit together. this revealed dominos and other defects, which I then highlighted with metallic gilding. the legs are different widths and the top slopes down to find the legs. the whole piece was sculpted by hand in order for it to find its own flow.

the legs are charred british ash, the shelves are american cherry. there is a bit of stained British tulipwood in the frames. the piece is finished with rubio monocoat 2c oil in natural and renaissance wax.
